YOU ARE IN THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION Building (shop)
Most men wish they had a shop like this with almost every tool you could
possibly want or need
as they look around, they understand the boys can learn to build
anything
Our vocational education program features state-of-the-art computer dyno;
carpentry shop,
welding, electrical, machine
shop, powder coating, and a graphic arts department, with vinyl wrap
capability
Boys arrive with an attitude of hopelessness because
they see no future for themselves,
they feel pressured to join with the family, when this is the
appropriate developmental time for them to seek independence,
yet they know they lack the skills, and they don't see any hope of
ever getting them because most have learning challenges,
and they lack the self-discipline to learn because what they need to
learn is not interesting to them
leading them into despair and eventually rebellious behavior
At Safe Harbor they are in a environment where everything is new, different, and, interesting to them and they can't wait to create something, which then leads them to success, some for the first time in their life. one success builds on another. Now learning Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry concepts, and even writing skills becomes important because they see the usefulness of these skills and they have learned them in an environment that makes sense to them
Now that Safe Harbor has their attention.....
we can teach them life skills and values because they have
learned respect for themselves, and that leads to respect for
parents and others in authority
Safe Harbor has taught them to believe in the possibility and reality of their dreams
